The Mystery of the Not Missing Water

Last week we recieved a notice from the rental office. Dated Monday, March 3rd, it read, in part, “EMERGENCY SHUT DOWN; The water will be shut down Wednesday March 5, 2008.” The notice was received on Thursday, March 6th, and yes, I had checked our mailbox – quite late in the day, in fact – the day prior.

So this week, we recieved another one saying the same thing, but dated Monday, March 10th for a water shut-down on Tuesday, March 11th, today. Now, we did get this one on Monday… but the water was never off. Not that I noticed, anyhow. It specified “between the hours of 12:00pm to 4:00pm,” and I confess that I forgot and reflexively turned on the taps two or three times (while cleaning up after the kids) even though the missive requested that the tenants not to do so.

But the water was there every time. Snowy tells me that there was an unmarked box filled with styrofoam downstairs, and also that the box measured about 4 feet on all sides. So I assume that the something that came out of the box was related to the something that came out of the rental office.

It’s odd, you see, to have apparently uninterrupted service as well as a fixed hot water situation. If this is portentious of things to come, I would hope that the service never again takes a slump to previous levels. I wonder how long it will take me to stop waiting for the other shoe to drop.

The hubby has been playing Nethack since 1995. He introduced me to it a while ago, and having put it down for quite some time, we were playing a little more over the last couple of months. Now it looks as though (once the NAO site is back online – their hard drive needs replacing) I may ascend before he does. This is, for him, at once “teh coolest thing evar” and “emasculating.”

Now it is I who is jealous of him. His blogs – yes, plural – get waaay more attention than I do as a human being, let alone the amount of attention my blog fails to attain. (All of you who just mentally pointed out that I started this post by talking about “Achievements in Nethack” may shush.) In fact, he now has a journalist sourcing articles from his WordPress blog. He says, “so write more.” Well then.

Edit: So he’s going to be that way…

I originally spelled “immasculating” wrong and did not capitalize “wordpress.” Among other things that were not actually errors, but that were Absolutely Imperative that I change. Over the course of two paragraphs. Well. Then.

Found it! Getting so sleepy

Couldn’t sleep last night until 6:15 this morning, EST. Sure didn’t catch up on my sleep today with the little terrors running around. Went to audit the Tuesday night Intensive Scene Study class, came home, still didn’t feel tired. Did some laundry. Had some of the husband. No, he’s not in the freezer. You know, girl-boy things.

Anyhoo. Changed the Brita filter and washed the water jug. Had some Ovaltine. Started to check my email, and found an invite from the hubby to start a weblog-Tee-Emm blog. Guess what I did with that? That’s right, I opened it. ‘Cause it’s email.

And now… well, I think the Ovaltine caught up with me. Of course, at 03:25, it isn’t like I’m going to have time to catch up on my sleep tonight. Some time before dawn one of the kinder is going to bring me a piece of an object that cannot be dismantled. Such are the perils of having vastly intelligent children.

D’oeth! I wrote a post last night and it was posted and then it disappeared. Although, I’ve been sick for a few days and had slept for … maaaaybe four hours over the preceeding 36… So I might’ve hallucinated the whole thing. Alternatively, I might have just done it wrong or clicked delete or any number of things, since I don’t recall the situation very clearly. Illness + coffee = insomnia + still ill! Criminey! Anyhoo, snobiwan sent me an invite to weblog, so here I am. Hi! Anyone else feelin’ a little under the weather?
